| Starter Gear |
|
| Nobody coming into American Civil War reenacting is expected to be able to equip
themselves fully from the outset. Most regiments will give new members a grace period of a year or more in
which to meet the required level of historical authenticity. |
|
| While guidelines are available on the Uniform Guidelines, these
are designed to allow a person to know what is eventually desirable from a person joining the 28th New York.
However, several items within these guidelines can be quite expensive. |
|
| The easiest option for a person new to the hobby would be to borrow uniform and equipment
from other members of the regiment while you look into collecting your own uniform. Alternatively, within the
regiment we have a number of people who make items for civil war uniforms to order and generally for less than
you will find from suttlers. |
|
| Loaner Gear |
|
| Starting reenacting any era is not cheap. However the initial cost can be offset
by joining a unit with a large supply of spare equipment. |
|
| The 28th New York have a large number of members who have spare uniforms,
leatherwork, equipment and even firearms, and we are more than able to equip any newcomers to the hobby for
an extended period of time to allow you an opportunity to take time purchasing the right equipment. |
|
| The vast majority of people involved in the hobby take a long time to put together a
complete uniform and camp equipment and in the mean time other reenactors are always there to help out. At
the end of the day we are an extended family; We all have a similar interest and anyone who has the dedication
to get involved in reenacting is automatically accepted as part of that family and treated as such. |
