Rules of Conduct
This unit participates in historical reenactments involving firearms, contact with other units and with the public. It is therefore essential that all members commit themselves to being safe and responsible during all unit functions. We, as a unit, will maintain an appropriate level of authenticity and unit cohesion to ensure a fun, safe and valuable learning experience for ourselves and the public. All non-members accompanying the unit at functions will be expected to adhere to these rules where applicable.
1) I. Military members (infantry) shall acquire in a timely manner the following equipment:* Non-infantry military personnel will acquire kit appropriate to their impression.
a) Mess kit--cup, plate, fork, spoon, knife and haversack, canteen.
b) Uniform and leather battle kit.
c) Proper method of transporting these items i.e.. backpack or camp box.
d) Weapon with bayonet and cleaning tools.
e) Tent.
II. Civilian members shall acquire in a timely manner:*
a) Eating utensils appropriate for civilians of the period.
b) Proper clothing and accessories.
c) Tent.
*note-- Before buying anything consult with the Military or Civilian Coordinators to ensure you purchase the proper items.
2) Military members shall have their own ammunition for each reenactment. If you are unable to obtain powder or caps for yourself other unit members may have some available for purchase. Members will be shown how to roll cartridges and will eventually be expected to roll their own.
3) While re-enactment camps are open to the public, members will remain in period dress and manner. There will be no foul language, or inappropriate behavior at any unit function. No non-period items shall be visible, including meal supplies. If you are not sure what is authentic and proper, ask.
4) Youth Policy: Persons under 18 must be under the supervision of their own parent or an assigned adult. The parent or assigned adult will be responsible for the youth at all times. Permission to attend an event must be given in writing and include emergency contact information. A current Health Statement, including permission for medical treatment in case of emergency, must be on file with the unit. Youth between the ages of 16 and 18 will under no circumstances be permitted to handle or use any weapon unless directly supervised by a qualified adult.
5) No members of the opposite sex will be together in a tent or other sleeping accommodation at any time.
Exceptions include:
a) Setting up and taking down
b) Members are married to each other
c) Occupants are a family unit (parents, children, siblings)
6) There will be no consumption or possession of alcohol or smoking materials by underage members at any function. There will be no consumption or possession of controlled substances by any member unless by physician’s orders. The responsible adult must be notified in writing of any underage member’s prescription medication. There will be no consumption or possession of any illegal substance by any member, at any unit function.
7) There will be no violation of any New York State or Federal law by any member. Infractions will be referred to the proper legal authorities. There will be no conduct which may endanger the health and welfare of any person, the unit or the public.
Infractions of Rules 5, 6 and 7 may be grounds for immediate dismissal. All other infractions will be dealt with as follows:
1st Occurrence will result in a verbal warning from the Board of Directors.
2nd Occurrence will result in a written warning from the Board of Directors.
3rd Occurrence will result in a discussion and vote by the General Membership on the appropriate action to be taken.
